Hello
World.
I’m
fine, don’t worry. Let me try to explain
what happened when I went to the bridge.
There was nothing there, nothing except the person in the mask. They never intended me to find anything. They sent me there to kill me. When that guy in the mask tackled me, I was
smart enough to have drawn my knife already and I was able to get him off me
fairly quickly with a jab in the back. I
had stopped recording shortly after simply because I did not want any of what I
was about to do on film and it turns out that my camera stopped working and the
image feed went black anyway. After I
had asked the person in the mask who he was he pleaded with me not to kill him
and continued to beg for forgiveness for the next minute. I had then asked him, “Forgiveness for what?”
and he responded with, “For meaning you harm, for being sent to kill you. We were unaware that you were the one.”
I demanded to know what he meant by that and he said, “You wear the pendant of
the Scarecrow.”
I had forgotten I even had Riley’s necklace on because I never take it
off. I bent down next to him and stared
at his eyes through the mask for a few moments before reaching out to tear it
off his face. He looked horrified aside
from being in obvious pain from the wound in his back.
“Who are you?” I asked him again, and this time he responded with an answer.
“My name is Andrew; I am a follower of the Lesser Scarecrow. His word is law beneath yours.”
“Mine?” I was confused.
“Yes, you are the Scarecrow. You are the
one who listens to the Tall One and who will reveal his will unto us so that we
may earn our place in-“I cut him off here by reaching around to dig one of my
fingers into the stab wound on his back.
He screamed in pain and I looked at him until he made eye contact with
me.
“Where is this leader of yours? How do I
get in contact with him?” I asked him and after a moment or two of whimpering
he responded.
“Please, stop! I’ll take you to
him. We have all been waiting for your
arrival.”
Still confused I agreed to let him take me to where this ‘Lesser Scarecrow’ guy
was with the rest of their ‘organization’ or whatever he called it. He said something about a flock? I don’t remember, but I followed him through
the woods to an opening in the trees where several others in black hoods and
with those weird masks stood circled around a single person who appeared to be
giving some kind of sermon. I let Andrew
go first and everyone in the clearing turned to look at us. Instinctively I had already opened the blade
of my knife in my pocket. Andrew hobbled
forward where a few of the masked people stepped forward quickly to help
him. I kept walking towards the person
who was in the center of the circle and stopped a few feet in front of
him. It was very quiet and we stared at
each other for a few moments before I tossed Andrew’s mask at his feet. He looked at it and then back to me.
“Who are you?” He asked me.
“I’m the Scarecrow. Who are you?” As I said this there were several gasps that
sounded around me and a few whispers here and there and then he raised his hand
to quiet them. He then proceeded to
remove his mask and his hood.
“I am the Lesser Scarecrow and the Keeper of this Flock.” He motioned with his hand to the people
around him. “We are followers of the
Tall One and we bend to his will in order to earn our place in His holy world
of glorious chaos.”
“What do I have to do with any of this?” I asked him.
“You are the Scarecrow, or so you claim, you are the one the Tall One chooses
to speak to. You are his Scarecrow, his
decoy in the mortal world.”
“I don’t think I understand…”
He moved to put on his mask and to pull up his hood.
“I cannot explain everything now. In
time you will learn, and your questions will be answered.”
Then he turned to leave, as did the rest of the people around us.
“Wait!” I called after them. “What am I
supposed to do now? When will I get
answers?” I was about to run after them
but Andrew was suddenly next to me and he stopped me.
“Soon, just not now. One of us will
contact you and let you know what to do next.” He strained to bend down and
pick up his mask which was still lying in the grass and he turned to leave as
well. I didn’t follow him though, there
was no point. I would just have to deal
with sitting around waiting for answers just a little longer. I don’t like it. I don’t like the idea of this ‘Flock’ thing,
this ‘organization’. However they don’t
seem to want to hurt me for the time being, so that’s good and at least I can
rest a bit easier knowing that Tasha will be okay. I was more worried about something happening
to her than myself.
Unfortunately,
I’m looking forward to finding more answers from these people.
